Today's game against Harmony Row was another tough one that didn't go the way we would all have hoped. Like the majority of the season so far we had good periods in the match and had some excellent performances. We have a very talented squad of players and despite the results we have shown ourselves capable of giving anyone in the league a competitive game. We just need to tighten up as a team unit to alleviate some of the easy goals and chances we are giving away. As we have found out, in this league none of the teams need an invitation to score and we have been duly punished on quite a few occasions. We are not expecting perfection though, from you as players or ourselves as coaches, this is impossible however it is important that you all appreciate the qualities you have as footballers and think about how you can maximise them.
From a personal point of view I've always considered the results to be secondary to the performances and personal development shown individually and more importantly as a team. It has always been our aim to help make you better footballers so that whatever you go on to in your footballing life we will have done our best to help you realise the talent you have. Yes it's always pleasing when we win but my own focus (and I'm sure Iain and Will would agree) has always been on seeing continual improvements to your footballing skillset. In this regard a number of you have really stepped up and shown the determination and aptitude to take the opportunity of playing in one of the strongest leagues in the country. We trust the qualities you have as footballers and realise that we are making progress even if it might not always be so apparent.
Perhaps the results have not been what we all would like but looking at the picture more widely we have come through a particularly difficult spell over the last 3 months of losing good players and missing 5 or 6 of you for a number of games to injury. It is a testament to you all that despite the numerous players we have been missing for most games this season you have shown how adaptable you are at playing well in positions that you wouldn't perhaps consider your favoured or strongest. Hopefully that is us back to full health (at last!) and we can continue to improve for the remainder of the season. Remember we have only played 12 league games there are 17 to go. That gives us 51 points to play for but more importantly it's 17 games in which we can continue to positively progress as players, coaches and as a team.
The rewards will come if you keep applying yourselves in training then take that into games. Keep striving to learn from your performances in every training session and match. (Chris, Iain and Will)
